Saving the World One Hygiene Kit at a Time

Clean the World Hygiene Kit

Participants of Caesars Entertainment’s Luxury Tour Experience were given the opportunity to organize hygiene kits at the Clean the World recycling center in Las Vegas on Tues., Aug. 1, 2017.

Bags consisted of two bars of soap, shampoo, toothpaste and a toothbrush among other items, as well as a hand-written note from the person collating the materials.

“So many tell us that the clients retain the notecard that was written for them,” said Ida Franklin, community engagement manager for the Clean the World Foundation.

Clean the World Foundation is a nonprofit entity that recycles discarded hotel amenity waste such as bars of soap and bottles of shampoo. Following a rigorous cleaning process, Clean the World turns the used soap into new soap for use in global health programs around the world.

Since its launch in 2009, over 41 million bars of soap have been distributed to 118 countries around the world, according to Franklin. In addition, the Clean the World Foundation provides hygiene kits to relief organizations throughout North America and over 5 million individuals have received soap and hygiene education through its programs.

Caesars Entertainment and Caesars Foundation have supported Clean the World, the largest global recycler of hotel amenities, since 2010.

Caesars was the most enthusiastic property to get involved in the program, according to Franklin. “They helped establish our recycling program here in Las Vegas. All Caesars properties recycle with us.”

Caesars’ North American properties have collected and recycled nearly 2 million bars of soap, helping to reduce the estimated 801,000 children under the age of five who die from hygiene related diseases globally each year.

Together, they have gifted $3 million to the organization in financial contributions, pounds of soap and volunteer hours.

Caesars also has helped organize International Soap Distribution trips to countries such as Guatemala, the Philippines and Ecuador during which groups of five to 15 individuals will spend five to seven days in a country where they will have the opportunity to deliver 10,000 to 20,000 bars of soap and provide proper hygiene education to those in need.
