MPI Unveils Docuseries on the Resurgence of Meetings and Events

Still from MPI Docuseries

Alongside the resurgence of professional meetings and events, MPI is unveiling a corporate docuseries, Experience Professionals: Inside the Industry that Brings People Together, highlighting the relationship between in-person events and business acceleration, as well as the people “behind the scenes” that make every gathering possible.

MPI partnered with dBase Media (DBM), a video production, content marketing and communications company, to create a docuseries showcasing everything meeting planners do, approaching the series through the lens of how much of an impact the meetings and events industry has on global change.

“[The docuseries] is a little bit of an industry advocacy message,” said Drew Holmgreen, chief brand officer of MPI. “It’s also a promotional push for MPI, so we’ve tried to find different channels to get that message out there.”

By recruiting related sponsors and supporting the same message as the docuseries they are producing, DBM funds the series, “basically covering the production costs” by marketing brand strategy, Holmgreen said, which allows for the production of multiple episodes to ensure the message is shared.

The docuseries, presented and narrated by former Good Morning America and CBS Early Show Correspondent Taryn Winter Brill, emphasizes how, through effective collaboration and communication, and with the help of the right technology, locations and facilities, and industry professionals, it is possible to have “meetings that matter.”

“There’s a segment in the first episode that focuses on the economic impact this industry made pre-pandemic,” Holmgreen said. “It was $1.2 trillion in direct business sales from events. If it was an economy, it would have been the 13th-largest economy in the world, employing well over 10 million people globally. It’s a huge industry, and it’s virtually unknown.”

Holmgreen makes an appearance in the docuseries, where he emphasizes the benefits of connections at both community and chapter levels, as well as the four key pillars of connecting through advocacy, collaboration, innovation and education.

Other topics discussed include how in-person gatherings bring energy through collaboration that acts as a catalyst for business growth with Paul Van Deventer, president and CEO at MPI. Annette Gregg, chief revenue officer at MPI, discusses the tasks and creative approaches to collaboration, intentional networking and matching the right solutions.

“This docuseries helps shed light on exactly how relevant and how impactful events are to our global economy, and how, as a group in a community of really smart, sophisticated, passionate individuals, we’ll battle our way back in,” Holmgreen said. “People crave and need face-to-face meetings. It’s been incredibly evident that we need to be together.”
