Take a Leap (Toward Sustainability)!

Take a Leap (Toward Sustainability)!

Monday is officially Leap Day 2016. What better day to take a leap, make a change, and start planning for a better future? Here’s an easy way to do just that. Pick one of the green meeting practices below and take action to incorporate it into your events.

  1. Ask vendors for their sustainability policy during the RFP process.
  2. Do not prefill water glasses at the event banquet.
  3. Include a community service project during the event.
  4. Ask caterer for 30% local or organic food (at no additional charge) before signing the contract.
  5. Buy conference materials with recycled content.
  6. Include green travel tips in your registration confirmation.
  7. Work with the chef on a "Meatless Monday" meal and you will save money too.
  8. Choose sustainable seafood.
  9. Sell sponsorships for fairly-traded coffee and chocolate breaks.
  10. Donate leftover food.

Just one practice will make a huge difference. Neil Armstrong said it best, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Go ahead take a leap!
