Taking full advantage of Alabama’s diverse topography, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail (RTJ Golf Trail) encompasses 26 golf courses at 11 sites from Huntsville in the north to Mobile in the southern reaches of the state.
For groups, the appeal is enhanced with eight meeting-friendly hotels in the RTJ Golf Trail Resort Collection. Managed by Marriott and Renaissance, the line-up includes two properties each in Mobile and Montgomery and one each in Birmingham, Auburn-Opelika, Point Clear and Florence.
“Our resorts are loaded with amenities like spas, pools, fitness centers and fine-dining restaurants so the nongolfer can thoroughly enjoy the experience, too,” says John Cannon, president of the RTJ Golf Trail. “We’re used to working with groups of all sizes, and some play lots of golf and others don’t.”
Major cities on the Trail offer a variety of museums, historical homes and specialty restaurants for off-site events and spouse programs. Popular choices include the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery and the Mobile Carnival Museum in Mobile.
Now in its 23rd year, the hugely successful RTJ Golf Trail has hosted more than 10 million rounds played on all its courses.
“The high quality, well-designed golf is an obvious major draw,” Cannon says. “However, it’s the exceptional service level and friendliness of our people that make meetings here extra special.
“Our staff members take great pride in showing off Alabama,” he continues. “Until you meet here, you really don’t fully appreciate the wonderful hospitality. We pleasantly surprise every first-time visitor to the state.”
Whether you’re a devoted golfer or someone who doesn’t know a golf ball from tennis ball, rest assured, you’d both enjoy the RTJ Golf Trail resort experience.
