Members of the UNITE HERE labor union, which represents hotel workers across Canada and the U.S., ratified an agreement with Marriott International to end their strike in Boston.
Before the ratification vote, a UNITE HERE Local 26 representative described the tentative version of the agreement as a “strong contract." UNITE HERE Local 26 represents workers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
According to UNITE HERE, 5,200 of its original 7,700 Marriott-employed members are still on strike in various destinations, with 2,700 hotel workers still on strike in Honolulu and Maui and 2,500 in San Francisco.
Rachel Gumpert, spokesperson for UNITE HERE, said the union is back at the bargaining table with Marriott in San Francisco and it willl resume contract negotiations in Hawaii following the Thanksgiving holiday.
