Downtown San Diego

  • The 14-story, 240-room Residence Inn San Diego Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter (619.487.1200) opened in November 2009 with 1,300 square feet of meeting space, a rooftop pool, a fitness center, complimentary high-speed Internet and Bar Vie, a full-service bar with a dinner menu.
  • The San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina (619.234.1500), which features 75,000 square feet of meeting space, is undergoing a $51 million renovation, which began in November 2009. The hotel's 1,362 guest rooms and suites will be completely transformed to incorporate an urban beach style decor.
  • In December 2009, the Porto Vista Hotel& Suites (619.544.0164) in downtown San Diego's Little Italy neighborhood finished the second phase of a two-part renovation. Following initial enhancements to the hotel's 145 guest rooms, Porto Vista introduced Evolve Salon, featuring a full range of professional salon services and beauty
    products; the Porto Vespa boutique, with a selection of Vespas, clothing, helmets and accessories available to rent or purchase; and Ripassi, a rooftop deck available for meetings, special events and sunset yoga classes.
  • Voyeur (619.756.7678), housed in a historic, two-story building in
    downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, is a new venue for meetings and events for up to 500 people. The versatile restaurant and nightclub is a new alternative for breakout sessions and intimate meetings. Voyeur features five rooms with independent sound systems, stages and modern technology and equipment.
  • In February 2010, the former Ivy Hotel became Andaz San Diego (619.849.1234) after a new management agreement with Hyatt Corporation.

Coronado

  • The 120-year-old Victorian Hotel Del Coronado (619.435.6611) recently completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of all of its interior meeting space, including its oceanfront ballroom.

Mission Valley/Old Town

  • In June, the Cosmopolitan Hotel (619.297.1869) opened in Old Town State Historic Park in a building dating back to 1827. After its multimillion-dollar restoration, the property features 10 guest rooms, an indoor and outdoor restaurant and several meeting rooms.
  • In February, Handlery Hotel & Resort (619.298.0511), located in Mission Valley, completed a $4 million, property-wide renovation. The project included a complete renovation of all 217 guest rooms as well as the hotel's public and event space.

La Jolla/Mission Bay

  • As part of a $20 million resort renovation, Paradise Point Resort & Spa (858.274.4630) along Mission Bay unveiled extensive upgrades to its meeting and event space in February. More than 35,000 square feet of meeting space was refurbished.

North San Diego County

  • The oceanfront, LEED-certified Scripps Seaside Forum (858.534.5604), located in the heart of Scripps Institute for Oceanography, opened in 2009. The meeting facility features 3D projection systems, multiple computer connections, surround sound and full teleconferencing capabilities.
  • In April, Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort (760.434.7020) began a three-phase, $4.5 million renovation of its guest rooms, meeting space, exterior and lobby. The project is scheduled for completion by spring 2011.
  • Doubletree Golf Resort San Diego (858.672.9100) finished a $2 million enhancement project in July. Taking inspiration from the resort's Arnold Palmer golf course, golf-themed touches are present throughout the new guest rooms, lobby, restaurant and bar.
