Vallarta Done Different

One cannot sing more loudly the praises of Puerto Vallarta, with its laid-back West Coast vibe, world-class gastronomic options, cobblestone streets, and vibrant arts scene, all uniquely offered in a top beach resort. But as all of these attributes combine to make P.V. a magnet for both leisure travelers and groups, the opportunity to sequester one’s meeting away from the crowd can sometimes be a challenge.

The all-inclusive, adults-only Casa Velas Hotel Boutique, situated by the Puerto Vallarta Marina and next to the Marina Vallarta golf course, brings an all-suite boutique option to the destination, and is the only member of Leading Small Hotels of the World in P.V.

Although not located on the beach, but rather in an upscale residential area, the quiet, 81-suite Casa Velas does offer its own beach club next to the Marriott and features on-demand shuttle service into town.

“There’s nobody with a profile even close to us,” says Pedro Luna, sales director at Casa Velas. “When you stay in our resort, you’re in a hacienda. There’s no other property like this in Vallarta. We can tailor-make everything a group wants. They can do a buyout with 80 rooms. It’s not easy to find a hotel [here] that can do that.”

Casa Velas features include the SPA Casa Velas, dining options ranging from elegant sit-down to casual beachside, and the 775-square-foot Salon Emperador meeting facility, which is surrounded by Marina Vallarta and offers a business center, wireless high-speed Internet access (available throughout the resort) and banquet and event catering. Luna said the property is about to build additional meeting space for up to 200 people, which should be ready near the end of the year.

Groups can also utilize the nearby Velas Vallarta Suite Resort & Convention Center to buy out a total of 250 rooms, with free shuttle service between the properties. Velas Vallarta’s 7,000-square-foot Grand Meeting Alejandra convention facility can accommodate up to 700 and features wireless high-speed Internet, high-tech audiovisual equipment and videoconferencing capacities, among other features.

And while Velas appears to have a pretty good lock on the “boutique-plus” market in Puerto Vallarta, Grupo Velas also offers the Grand Velas All Suites & SPA Resort in Nuevo Vallarta in the Riviera Nayarit region, one of only two five-diamond all-inclusive resorts in the world, and located about 20 minutes north of the Puerto Vallarta Marina properties.

It just goes to show that in Puerto Vallarta and its surroundings, sometimes you can have it all—or just to yourself.
