Hurricane Evacuees Applying to Move to Area Hotels

Hurricane Ike evacuees began applying for assistance Tuesday to move to hotels and motels after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) opened a transitional sheltering program.

FEMA will pay lodging expenses for eligible families through Oct. 14. More than 180,000 had registered as of Sept. 17, according to the Dallas Morning News.
