Checking In - Getting Prepped

When the East Coast was devastated by Hurricane Sandy in late October it served as a reminder to us all, no matter where our meetings are typically held, that having a good contingency plan is critical in this business.

Where I’m writing this, within sight of the San Francisco Bay and minutes from the Pacific Ocean, we’re a candidate for a tsunami—and, in fact, had the relatively weak trans-Pacific surge from the 2011 Japanese earthquake wash up on our shores. Never mind the ever-present, Earth-shaking threat of “The Big One.”

No matter where you may be meeting, there’s always a chance of disasters, natural or man-made, threatening your event and its attendees.

Check out our Hot Topic piece, “Surviving the Storm,” to get your bearings.
