News Brief: IHG boosts boutique portfolio

San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants was acquired by InterContinental Hotels Group for $430 million.

Founded in 1981, Kimpton’s brand mission was to create boutique hotel experiences with unique perks and amenities for guests, instituting many now commonplace items like complimentary bike rentals, juice bars and in-room yoga mats.

All 62 Kimpton hotels and 70 restaurants will join IHG’s nine existing brands. Comparisons have been made between Kimpton properties and IHG’s Hotel Indigo and EVEN brands. IHG will now have more than 200 boutique, lifestyle properties open or in the pipeline.
