Former Meetings Today editor Maria Lenhart, a veteran meetings journalist whose work has appeared in some of the top industry publications, has written Lost Treasures of San Francisco, which details some of the greatest “lost” treasures of the City by the Bay.
Like fourth-generation San Franciscan Lenhart, longtime Bay Area residents have an affinity—a longing, really—for the city’s golden past. Lenhart’s book digs into many of these favorites, from the City of Paris department store and the giant slide at Playland to dancing to the Grateful Dead at the Winterland Ballroom.

Not all about the bygone days, readers will also enjoy passages about still-operating institutions such as the Tonga Room, Top of the Mark, Garden Court at the Palace, Redwood Room, Tommy’s Joynt and Taditch Grill, among many others.
San Francisco is nothing without its eccentric characters, with the likes of Herb Caen, Robin Williams, the San Francisco Twins and the king of them all, Emperor Norton, given their due.
Lenhart, whose work has appeared in more than 100 publications, including Travel + Leisure, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Skift and Via, is also the author of the recent Secret Cape Cod & The Islands guidebook, which won the prestigious Lowell Thomas Award from the Society of American Travel Writers.
