Touring Around Tuscany

When you think of a Vespa scooter, you think of buzzing around small streets in quaint Italian towns or bustling cities. Now, at the Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte, set in Viareggio, Tuscany, guests can do just that.

The hotel offers the chance to explore the towns, villages, squares, churches and coast all from the motorbike. Both vintage and modern versions are available and the tours can be customized based on needs of guests or groups. The tours, which include a guide speaking in Italian and/or English, lunch, third-party insurance, driver insurance and a full tank of gas, can focus on the coastline to go through the city of Viareggio and the town of Forte dei Marmi, or head to the hills and mountains to experience the town of Torre del Lago Puccini and Valdicastello, the small town part of Pietrasanta where the poet Giosue Carducci was born.

“Versilia [the region of Tuscany] is a virtually infinite art and nature museum, able to surprise even its inhabitants with new and changing scenarios,” said Claudio Catani, general manager. “The Vespa, with its being dynamically and so pleasantly Italian, enhances all this and gives to the experience a touch of additional uniqueness”.

Set on the Tuscan coast, the Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte has over 100 guest rooms. The hotel was founded in the early 1920s and was restored and renovated in 2004. There is 4,400 square feet of meeting space that includes four rooms and a recently opened “central room” that can accommodate 250 attendees. In addition, the 1,800-square-foot veranda can also host 250 guests.
