Phoenix’s Largest Hotel Appoints New General Manager

Daryl Rhead

Daryl Rhead began his career with Marriott International in 2004, with his first on-property position at the Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco as an assistant controller. Come this January, Rhead embarked on his latest journey with the company when he was named general manager of 1,003-room Sheraton Phoenix Downtown, the largest hotel in Phoenix.

Between 2004 and today, Rhead developed leadership skills in franchise services, finance and operations at other Marriott properties, including Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort and Spa and San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront.

Rhead’s more than two decades of experience will help him as he oversees all aspects of hotel operations and guest experiences. The Phoenix property is Sheraton’s flagship hotel for its global brand transformation, acting as the prototype for new designs focused on productivity, community and modern amenities. It features 112,000 square feet of meeting space, including the 27,200-square-foot Phoenix Ballroom, the 14,000-square-foot Valley of the Sun Ballroom, and 20 breakout rooms. It is one block from the Phoenix Convention Center.

Rhead’s wider contributions to the industry include serving as an adjunct professor instructing advanced courses in finance and hotel operations at The George Washington University Graduate School of Business and the University of Maryland.

"We are excited to welcome Daryl to the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown team," said William Stratton, market director of sales and marketing, in a press release. "His deep expertise in operations, finance and franchise management, combined with his passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences, will drive our hotel to new levels of innovation and excellence."
