New Sr. Hospitality Pro at Southern California Casino Resort Reveals Sweet Spots for Meetings

Clara Carter

Near San Diego, Jamul Casino Resort opened the doors of its new hotel tower in August of 2025. The casino had been a stand-alone product in the area for six years. Now, the staff is rolling out the red carpet for meeting attendees and guests in the wake of the new luxury hotel and meeting venue coming to the property.

To drive meetings, incentives and other group events, Jamul Casino Resort has appointed Clara Carter as senior hospitality and event strategy consultant. In her 25-year career in hospitality, tourism and event strategy, Carter founded the Multi-Cultural Convention Services Network and Women in Tourism and Hospitality. In her new role, she hopes to elevate Jamul’s appeal to corporate, association and incentive planners.

“I'm just really excited to add this particular venue to my portfolio, and to be able to introduce it not only to our community but to the world,” she said. “It is a place that when you come to San Diego, you would want to come and check this out, and you can stay there all day.”

Meetings Today asked Carter three questions about the new hotel tower and what the property offers meeting groups.

Meetings Today: What is the sweet spot for meetings at the Jamul Casino Resort? How many attendees?

Clara Carter: The sweet spot, we’ve got several. First, it is the closest casino resort to San Diego airport, only 13 miles awayt. It's also a luxury space addition that they've put there with state-of-the-art AV. They have a speakeasy room. They have meeting space for 50 people to 230 people, as well as 200 luxury rooms and 22 suites at the property. And then there’s a state-of-the-art luxury spa. So that is what I really love that they have a full-service spa there, and the views are just amazing because they have the hillside views versus the city views. So, if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown San Diego, you now can go to this scenic, natural, relaxing space.

What is unique about the spaces available or the service initiatives and amenities you offer for meetings?

What's unique is that they have over 15,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, and it is just luxury. It's just beautiful. When you go in, you just immerse yourself in it. What I also love is that it's disconnected from the casino. You don't have any smoke or noise. They have a separate drive up to the side of the meeting space, and it's also free valet parking and free parking at the resort.

And then they have the speakeasy room that's tucked away, which accommodates 50 to 60 people with a private balcony and scenic view of the mountains and hillside.

Give me an overview of how groups can take advantage of the entire property.

Maybe they're doing a seminar or a conference, but a lot of them want to have a two-day event because now on the second day they want to do a spa retreat. So, I see them coming in for the meeting and staying for the resort pleasures of just relaxing and then going up to their suite and then going out to dinner. The property has the five-star steakhouse and a VIP seafood restaurant among others. If they want to take in the casino, that's their option; they can do a bit of gambling if that's what their hearts desire. But if they’re not interested in that, they can skip it all because it's nowhere on their side of the property.

Many of the casinos, they really focus a lot on just the local traffic. But Jamul is not only focusing on locals, but they are also focusing on meetings in San Diego that want a luxury experience.
