Downtown Los Angeles/ Hollywood/Valleys

Star Power

By MARLENE GOLDMAN

The glitz, glamour and celebrity allure endemic to Hollywood has spread to Downtown L.A., where a renaissance has brought the once deserted neighborhood back to life with new hotels, museums, concert halls, funky bars and trendy restaurants.

The property has 123 guest rooms, including 14 suites, The Ritz-Carlton Spa, the 3,400-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge on the 23rd floor and WP24 by Wolfgang Puck, featuring Asian fusion cuisine. The property shares more than 100,000 square feet of meeting space, including several ballrooms, with the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live. Groups can also use BLUE, the outdoor rooftop pool and terrace, for events. This summer, the property plans to roll out its completely revamped spa program, which will include all-new treatments and a number of new product lines.

Curtain Calls

By MARLENE GOLDMAN

With all the celebrity appeal associated with L.A., some of the most enticing off-site venues are the theaters, old and new.

The city's downtown theater district at one time was the West Coast's equivalent to Broadway. The Broadway Corridor is home to 12 historic theaters, most built in the '20s and '30s, and boasts the largest concentration of historic theaters and movie palaces in the nation. Many screen vintage movies during the annual Last Remaining Seats program, produced by the Los Angeles Conservancy (www.laconservancy.org), and are popular for Hollywood movie shoots, live performances and special events.
