Visit Dana Point Taps Heather Johnston as Executive Director

Visit Dana Point, the DMO for Dani Point, California, appointed Heather Johnston as executive director, tasked with leading the Visit Dana Point marketing team in promoting the city as a premier coastal destination for group, business and leisure travelers. 

Johnston, a proven leader in the hospitality industry, brings more than 25 years of experience in destination management, brand development and organizational management to her new role as executive director. Most recently, Johnston served as the manager of hospitality marketing at Mammoth Mountain, overseeing the marketing and communication programs for six lodging properties. 

As executive director, Johnston will lead Visit Dana Point’s operational strategy, create unique programs and promotional opportunities to showcase the destination’s offerings and act as a liaison between stakeholders and the DMO.  

“Heather’s extensive background and familiarity with destination marketing, let alone her experience with the Dana Point community, make her an excellent addition to the lead the Visit Dana Point team,” said George Munz, board chairman of Visit Dana Point and general manager of Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort and Club. “I’m confident that she will bring a host of fresh ideas and energy to the organization that will be extremely beneficial for Visit Dana Point’s operations and marketing efforts.” 

Johnston also served as executive director for Dana Point Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center, where she established a strong connection with the local community and increased membership by 32% in one year. She also developed a five-year strategic plan to manage operations and a multi-thousand-dollar budget for more than 400 members.
