Hyatt Cuts 30% Of U.S. Customer Service Staff in Latest Round of Hotel Industry Layoffs

Hyatt Hotels is the latest hotel giant to engage in massive staff reductions, with the company cutting 30% of its U.S. guest services and support personnel.

The move comes on the heels of Marriott’s layoffs in November, which saw a reduction of 833 corporate employees. Both companies said the layoffs were part of larger “restructuring” and “reorganization” efforts.

A lot of uncertainty surrounds the most recent Hyatt layoffs, with many severed employees taking to social media and news outlets to speak out about how they were let go.

One post on Reddit claimed employees “apparently received 24 hours’ notice before termination, and severance packages of $800 or less. There are no more physical U.S. call centers, with remaining local agents remote.” Hyatt has not confirmed these details.

A Hyatt spokesperson confirmed to HotelDive that the company’s Global Care Centers in Marion, Illinois, and Omaha, Nebraska, remain operational. The company did not confirm or deny if artificial intelligence would be utilized to supplement the loss of customer service employees.

The layoffs are part of larger uncertainties and dimming revenue forecasts for some of the largest hotel chains. In May, Forbes reported that Hyatt Hotels and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts lowered its room revenue outlooks, with Hilton also lowering its 2025 revenue forecasts. Many of these chains cited recent macroeconomic uncertainties, such as President Trump’s tariffs, in their downgraded forecasts.
