The Newest LEED in D.C.
The Arlo Washington DC, which opened in November 2024 as Arlo Hotels’ seventh location in the U.S., has achieved the LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The LEED rating system is the world’s most widely used green building rating system and provides standards for sustainable construction and highly efficient green buildings. There are over 197,000 LEED projects in over 186 countries and territories around the world, with Arlo Washington DC being one of the latest added to that list.

The property has introduced a number of sustainability elements, such as its 6,000-square-foot green roof that has a 12,000-gallon cistern used to collect rainwater. This water is then reused onsite and results in the property reducing its energy costs by 25%. Additionally, the hotel’s landscaping, native plant selection and irrigation systems reduce the property’s water usage by 57%.
The hotel also features Energy Star-certified appliances and kitchen equipment, which minimize excessive water usage and energy consumption.
Additionally, the hotel has incorporated one of the city’s oldest surviving apartment buildings into its property, which reduced the need for materials during construction and preserved the architectural heritage of the original building.
